About Us

The Otto-von-Guericke Business School Magdeburg is an integral partner of the Faculty of Economics and Management, Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg. Its area of responsibility includes the organizing and implementing of a management educational program at the master’s level for international students. This mutually-beneficial, collaborative partnership has been in existence since 2011. It is an ongoing, fruitful relationship where scholastic resources of all kinds are being shared and a common educational philosophy is being implemented. What is more, all of the instructional programs are subject to the same strict quality assurance mechanisms that the university requires.

Our programs are designed to groom you for the managerial challenges that lie ahead. Join us here in Magdeburg and you will acquire the requisite business savvy to successfully compete in today’s global marketplace. Our Summer School is administered by the Otto von Guericke Business School Magdeburg. The Otto von Guericke Business School is an integral partner of the Faculty of Economics and Management, Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg, in providing educational programmes at the bachelor and master’s level with an overall high level of internationalisation. The International Summer School is an opportunity for students from abroad to broaden their horizon, get to know German cultural heritage and explore the country. 

Are you ready to embark on an extraordinary journey of knowledge, cultural exploration, and personal growth right in the heart of Europe? Join us for our highly anticipated International Summer School in the picturesque city of Magdeburg, Germany, an exceptional and enriching experience crafted exclusively for international students, with a special focus on welcoming participants from abroad.

We offer the unique opportunity to tailor an educational experience abroad. This is, each group can decide on the topic that piques your interest and aligns with your academic goals. Before coming to Germany, it is to choose from a range of captivating subjects that will be the topic of the Summer School education. All subjects will be taught by international oriented elite staff of the Faculty of Economics and Management.

During this 10-20 day Summer School in Magdeburg, students have the chance to delve deep into the chosen subject while immersing themselves in Germany‘s rich cultural heritage. They will visit iconic landmarks like the Harz region, explore the inner workings of renowned companies such as DHL and Volkswagen, and experience the vibrant pulse of Berlin, the dynamic capital of Germany.

With our dedicated support, they can focus on making the most of their time at our International Summer School in Magdeburg while enjoying the freedom and flexibility to explore the city and their studies on their terms.

Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded a certificate of achievement, and we invite students to join us for a memorable farewell party to celebrate their journey with us.

The Program

The International Summer School is based on a two weeks schedule that allows both, deep learning and exploring the country of Germany. Please find an example of how your stay in Germany can look like. 

Day 1 - 6

Magdeburg

Welcome to Germany!

Right after we picked you up at the airport, we will bring you to Magdeburg where you will get to know the city. We will take you to a city tour for you to gain some orientation and see the most important spots for your stay here. 

Magdeburg is the state capital of Sachsen-Anhalt and, consequently, a seat of government as well as a thriving industrial, commercial, and medical center. Located on the banks of the Elbe River, it is a city with a long and illustrious history. The first German Holy Roman Emperor, Otto I (912 - 973), built his palace here because of the city's unique location at a crossroads of trading and commerce. Throughout the centuries it has grown and prospered. Today, Magdeburg is the home of two universities and thus attracts scholars from all over the world making it an important center for international research.

We will have a welcome dinner and days will be filled with lectures and group work. Of course, there will also be leisure time and we will provide you with tipps for dinner and sightseeing. 

Day 7

Quedlinburg / Harz

You will visit a historical city in the Harz region, western Saxony-Anhalt. The Harz is a highland area with the highest elevations, this part of Germany can offer. 

You will explore the city of Quedlingburg or Wernigerode. These beautiful smalls cities with their old houses  and small cafés are a part of the German cultural heritage. Enjoy a sigtseeing tour, learn about the cities' history, and explore the surrounding.

Seize the day for working on the group project that you were assigned and also dive deeper into the subject you have chosen to be the major of your stay at our International Summer School. 

Day 9

Wolfsburg, Leipzig

On this day, you will gain some insights in the most important companies in the region. 

We will visit the Volkswagen Autostadt and factory in Wolfsburg or the DHL Logistics hub in Leipzig. Volkswagen is one of the biggest automotive brands in the world and established more than 80 years ago. Learn about the factory's history and current developments.

The DHL hub in Leipzig is one of the largest logistics centres in Germany when it comes to Airmail and parcels. You will learn about the way of parcels being brought to Germany and sent from here to all over the world. 

Days 10 and 11

Days 10 and 11 will be used for lecture time. On these two days, you will also have leisure time in the afternoon.

On day 12, you will have time to prepare your group presentation. Remember the skills you have achieved in the lectures during your Summer School and create an interesting presentation for your peers and the lecturers. 

Day 13

Day 13 is the grande finale of your Summer School experience in Magdeburg. You will present the results of your group work and will receive your certificates. 

In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner and celebrate you and your achievements. 

Day 14

Magdeburg, Berlin

Early in the morning, you will travel to Berlin, the capital of Germany. It is a center of innovative technology and science and, therefore, it has become a startup hub. 

Before heading to the airport, you will have a sight seeing tour of Berlin via bus (dependent on the departure time) and can gain some insights of this marvellous city.

You will then arrive at the airport. Thank you for visiting Germany!

Joachim Weimann

Chief Executive Officer (CEO), is the founder of the Otto-von-Guericke Business School Magdeburg. He is also the Chairman of the Department of Public Economic Policy, Faculty of Economics and Management, Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg. His main areas of research include experimental economics, environmental policy issues, and business ethics. He is the author of several books and is a regular contributor to policy discussions in Germany by means of his numerous media contributions. Consequently, he is listed as one of the “50 most influential economists in Germany,” according to a leading German publication. 

Prof. Dr. Peter Reichling

Professor Dr.
Peter Reichling

Head of International Affairs (HIA), is the Chairman of the Department of Banking and Finance, Faculty of Economics and Management, Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg. Moreover, he serves as Director of the Research Center for Development of the German Savings Bank Group. His main areas of research include company valuation, performance measurement, and risk measurement. He is the author of a book on Risk Management and numerous scientific journal publications on related topics.
